I am not eligible to contribute to a Roth IRA,
What incentive do I have to invest after tax money into an IRA (where the withdrawl age is 59 1/2 yrs old)? Wouldn’t it be better to just invest in mutual funds where I can withdrawl the money at any time?

i have a couple thousand dollars i need to grow to help pay for college. what is a low risk mutual fund that will give me a return, i doesn’t matter if it is modest, as long as it is not a huge risk.
i have an etrade account, but dont know much about using it.
